Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg outdoor track & field teams recorded two program records and 60 individual top-10 performances at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic, the Hornets' second home competition of the season.
On Friday night, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Rylee Turner, Hannah Edwards, Madelyn Boyce and Kaitlyn Ruiz combined to record a 3:50.24 school record. The Hornets improved upon the previous record by over four seconds, and Ruiz split a 55.39 leg on the anchor leg.
A day later, Lamont Victoria cruised to a 21.39 program record in the men's 200-meter dash to claim first overall in the field. Despite racing the 200m for just the third time in a Lynchburg uniform, Victoria shaved three hundredths of a second off Tristan Wright's 21.42 record from 2025.
In addition, Victoria cleared 6' 11½" (2.12m) to earn another individual victory in the men's high jump. Teammate Jamarcus Brown elevated over the 6' 10¼" bar to finish second, while the pair of Hornets entered the weekend occupying the top two marks in Division III. Elijah Rose placed third in the competition (6' 2¾" or 1.90m).
Track Events
In the men's 800-meter run, Daniel Rockey submitted a 1:53.01 personal best to win the event, improving his previous mark by two seconds.
Other notable podium finishes on the track included Kaitlyn Ruiz's 2:14.40 victory in her women's 800-meter debut at Lynchburg, as well as Antaveon Steele's second-place performance for 14.84 in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Hannah Edwards posted 2:16.16 for second place in the 800m.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Elijah Rose sprinted to a 55.37 first-place run, while Kacey Kelly clocked 1:06.93 in the women's race for third place.Â
In the Frank Csorba Invitational Mile, Alex Jordan split 4:12.50 for fifth place, while Winter Tietjen paced to a ninth-place finish with a 5:17.42 in the women's race.
First-year Hornets Trenton Tucker and Brianna Taylor qualified for the 100-meter dash final, while Tucker set an 11.06 personal best for fourth. Taylor secured seventh place with a 12.46 performance on the women's side.
Draven Fernandez finished eighth in the men's invitational 5,000-meter run with a 15:28.06 performance, while Mya Baker placed 13th in the women's race with a personal-best 18:46.70 performance.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team rounded the oval in 47.90 for second place; heading into the weekend, the mark would have occupied 22nd in the nation.
Field Events
Beyond her aforementioned hurdles performance, Kacey Kelly finished first in the women's jump, leaping to a 38' 9¾" (11.83m) mark. Entering the weekend, Kelly's performance would have solidified fifth place in DIII
Kelly also placed third in the women's javelin (119' 5" or 36.41m), finishing closely behind first-year Haylee Smith, who threw for second place (128' 7" or 39.19m).
In the men's long jump, Demetri Hinton notched third place with a mark of 22' 5" (6.83m). Two Hornets found the podium in the women's long jump; Selah Parker submitted a personal-best 17' 8" (5.38m) for second, while Audrey Lacombe leaped 17' 3¼" (5.26m) for third.
Kenzie Swicegood collected a pair of top-five marks in throwing events; the junior registered a fourth-place 137' 11" (42.04m) mark in the women's hammer throw, along with a fifth-place 123' 11" (37.78m) performance in the women's discus throw.
The Hornets return to action on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18 as they compete in the UVA Challenge and the WildCat Invitational.
Duke Invitational
Earlier in the week, Micah Leech traveled to Durham, N.C. for the Duke Invitational, collecting 6,712 points for third place in the competition. Leech's performance sits fifth on the program's top-10 list.
The junior finished third in the long jump (22' 9¾" or 6.95m) and 110-meter hurdles (15.12).Â
