LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team gathered another conference win on the road, defeating Randolph 21-1 on Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium.
Freshman attacker Lilly Messineo led the way for Lynchburg (12-5, 5-3 ODAC) offensively with a season-high four goals. Ten other Hornets found the back of the cage on the afternoon, with multi-goal performances from Neely Morris, Emmy Clay, Emma Timberg, Elizabeth Poitras, Isabella Vogel, and McKenna Steinau. Clay tied Messineo for a team-best six points, with three goals and three assists.
Lynchburg began with a commanding first frame. The Hornets tallied six goals in the opening fifteen minutes, all while holding the Wildcats (1-14, 1-7 ODAC) scoreless. Lynchburg built a 14-0 shot advantage in the opening quarter with a strong showcase at midfield, winning six draw controls, along with a blistering ride that forced turnovers and helped maintain possession.
The second quarter provided more of the same as Lynchburg ballooned their lead to 11 by the intermission. The Hornets added nine more goals in the second half.
Offensively, the Hornets showcased some of their best ball movement of the season, recording the second-most assists in a game this year with 16, trailing only the penultimate matchup against Warren Wilson (20). On the defensive end, Lynchburg notched a season-high 21 caused turnovers.
With the victory in the regular-season finale, combined with a Shenandoah loss, Lynchburg moves into the fourth slot of the ODAC Tournament. The Hornets will await the winner of No. 5 Shenandoah and No. 8 Guilford for a quarterfinal affair on Shellenberger Field next week.
