Forest, Va. -- University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse student-athlete
Riley Hastings was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and nine performers were selected to All-ODAC teams, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Hastings was the top offensive competitor across the ODAC this season and one of the best in the division III in the nation. He is two points away from 100 on the season with 61Â goals and 37 assists. The senior led the conference in goals per game with an average of 3.16 and points per game with a 5.11 average. His point per game mark ranks 28th-best across all of DIII. Additionally, he ranked third in the ODAC in assists per outing with a 1.95 average. Against Christopher Newport this season - the then-ranked No. 2 team in the country - Hastings set the program record for points in a single game with 13 on eight goals and five assists.Â
The Hornets had six athletes named to the All-ODAC First Team:Â Hastings,
Liam Holman,
Will Rubley,
Riley Frankel,
Parker Sealey, and
Kylar Mahoney.
Luke Meadows was selected to the All-ODAC Second Team, while
Finn Schmidt and
Liam Haley were honored on the All-ODAC Third Team.Â
Holman and Rubley are part of the effective starting midfield unit. Holman has tallied the second-most goals on the team with 40 while adding 16 dimes. Rubley is third on the squad in points with 35 goals and 17 assists.Â
Frankel led the conference in faceoff winning percentage, obtaining possession on .669 percent of draws. That clip is the 16th-best of all DIII athletes this season. Frankel also led the ODAC in ground balls per game with 9.40 per affair, the 12th-most in the country.Â
Short stick defensive midfielder Sealey is a force on both the defensive and offensive end. To go with 13 points on eight goals and five assists, the senior has forced four caused turnovers and grabbed the fifth-most ground balls on the team with 34. Mahoney leads the close defensive unit and ranks atop the team in caused turnovers with 31, averaging 1.72 per game for the sixth-most in the ODAC.
Meadows is the team's top long stick midfielder and has been effective on the faceoff unit and defensive end. He has tallied the fourth-most ground balls on the team with 42 and forced 12 opponent turnovers. Schmidt was selected to the third team as an attackman for the second consecutive season and has notched at least one point in 11 of the team's last 12 outings. Haley was named to the third team as a close defenseman. He's tied for the second-most caused turnovers on the squad with 13.
The men's lacrosse team prepares for the NCAA tournament beginning with a second-round matchup against either Grove City or Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday, May 9 at noon on Shellenberger Field.
