LC field hockey closes out regular season with win over EMU
HARRISONBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated Eastern Mennonite University 3-0 on Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play to seal an undefeated conference regular season.
Lynchburg (14-3, 7-0 ODAC) benefited from three different goal scorers throughout the contest and stifled the Royals offense to keep them off the board.
After remaining scoreless through the first-half, the Hornets struck first with a goal from junior Deanna Smith (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) who scored 1:52 into the second half. Taking a feed from senior Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River), Smith shot from the center and hit the upper corner of the goal.
Freshman Haili Hartman (Centreville, VA/Centreville) scored for the Hornets at the 17:50 mark of the second half off a feed from sophomore Shelly Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) to make it 2-0.
Milks would also assist on a goal from Lindsay Leonard (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) with 6:41 left to make it 3-0. Leonard is second in points on the team with 39, trailing Weir who has 42 points.
Junior Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) made one save on the day. Eastern Mennonite goalie Becky Nolt made 14 saves during the game.
Lynchburg finishes the regular season with a 14-3 record and a perfect 7-0 in ODAC play. LC will receive a first-round bye in the ODAC Tournament and will play next in the second round on Nov. 3.
