Hornet Tennis Splits ODAC Match at Randolph College

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College men's tennis team knocked off cross-town rival Randolph College 8-1 Wednesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play, though the Hornet women were less fortunate falling by the same 8-1 score.

In men's play, the Hornets rolled taking all three doubles matches and five of the six singles' flights. Kristian Richardson (Trenton, NJ/Princeton School of Huns) won with Brandon Hall (Sterling, VA/Dominion) at No. 1 doubles 8-6, while Brian Nelson (Charlotte, NC/Home schooled) and Brandon Brown (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) took their No. 2 doubles match 8-2. Dustin Dull (Clifton, VA/Centreville) and Robert Martin (Madison Heights, VA/Amherst Co.) paired to win at No. 3 singles 8-3.

In singles action, Richardson took his No. 1 singles contest one and three, while Brown won in straight sets at No. 3 singles. Nelson won all 12 games in his No. 4 singles match, and Dull and Nick Carroll (Atlanta, GA/Holy Innocents) each won one and zero in their singles matches.

In the women's match, the Hornets played tough but dropped their 14th straight match dating back to last season. Krysten Bishop (Big Rapids, MI/Big Rapids) barely dropped her No. 1 doubles 9-7, but took her No. 1 singles contest in straight sets four and three. Clare Wallendjack (Kensington, MD/Walter Johnson) forced a third-set tiebreak, but fell 10-4 in the extra set.

The Lynchburg College men's team will take on Ferrum College Friday in Ferrum, VA at 3 p.m., though the women will have to wait an extra day to take to the courts as they entertain Guilford College Saturday at 10 a.m.
