Box Score #3 Lynchburg Field Hockey Cruises to 5-1 Win at Shenandoah
WINCHESTER, VA - Four different Hornets scored Wednesday to lead the third-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team to a 5-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory at Shenandoah University Wednesday afternoon. Junior attack Lindsay Leonard scored two goals and added an assist.
The Hornets didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard, as Leonard found the back of the cage just 1:21 into the game. LC scored again 21 minutes later as senior Deanna Smith scored from freshman Katie Kline and Kline scored a goal of her own a few minutes later on a feed from senior Tarah Rahner as the Hornets took a 3-0 lead into intermission.
Sophomore Kelli Williams knocked in a score from Leonard at 45:56 of the second half. Hannah Johnson scored from Liz Grover for SU three minutes later, the first goal allowed by LC since September 13. Leonard added her second goal of the day in the closing minutes.
Lynchburg had an advantage of 40-3 in shots and 15-1 in penalty corners.
Shenandoah goalie Sarah Clare finished with 15 saves, while LC cage-minder Tiffany Frye turned away one shot.
The Hornets (13-1/5-0 ODAC) host Eastern Mennonite University Saturday at 11 a.m. as a part of Homecoming 2011.
