Nine Score as LC Field Hockey Defeats Sweet Briar 12-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – Nine different Hornets scored Thursday night as the third-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated visiting Sweet Briar College 12-0 in both teams' last regular season conference game. It is the 16th-straight win for LC.
Senior Deanna Smith and sophomore Kelli Williams each netted two first-half goals as LC took a 6-0 lead at intermission. Junior Colleen Dore netted two second-half goals to join Smith and Williams for game-highs.
Lindsay Leonard had a goal and an assist and Katie Kline had two assists. Shelly Milks, Kelsey Link, Grace Ann Edgerton, Ashley Nelson and Eliza Fritz each found the back of the cage while Amanda Wain and Megan Tillou had assists.
The Hornets out-shot the Vixens 70-0 and held an advantage of 18-0 in penalty corners. Brooke Scott made 17 saves for Sweet Briar (3-12/0-8 ODAC) and Madeline Wilson had eight stops.
The Hornets (16-1/8-0) have the weekend off after earning the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament and a first-round bye. The Hornets will host a second-round game Wednesday against an opponent and at a time to be determined.
