Leonard Posts Four as #4 LC Field Hockey Defeats Va. Wesleyan 10-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior attack Lindsay Leonard continued her scoring ways with four goals Tuesday as the fourth-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team rolled to a 10-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College in a matchup of two unbeaten Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) teams.
Senior Kristina Morris drew first blood just under nine minutes in, and assisted on Leonard's first goal shortly thereafter as LC took a 2-0 lead. Deanna Smith scored from Kelli Williams and Leonard followed with back-to-back tallies, one from Williams, to give the Hornets a 5-0 edge at the 28:29 mark of the first half. Ashley Nelson scored a late first-half goal from Morris to push the advantage to 6-0 at halftime.
Leonard scored an early second-half goal from Amanda Wain. Tarah Rahner, Shelly Milks and Colleen Dore each scored after halftime.
Williams and Morris each had two assists for Lynchburg, and Wain and Katie Kline each had one. Kirsten Olson made 12 saves for Virginia Wesleyan (4-5/2-1 ODAC). The Hornets outshot the Marlins 37-5 and held a 12-6 edge in penalty corners. Leonard has a double-digit lead in goals in the conference with 18 and Morris now leads the ODAC with nine assists.
The Hornets (10-1/4-0 ODAC) face York College (PA) Sunday in a game played on the turf field of Eastern Mennonite University.
