Shelly Milks Posts Two Goals in 4-0 LC Victory over York
HARRISONBURG, VA – Junior midfielder Shelly Milks scored twice Sunday afternoon as the fourth-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team defeated York College 4-0 in a non-conference contest played at Eastern Mennonite University.
Milks scored less than five minutes into the game on an assist from senior Kristina Morris. Junior attack Lindsay Leonard found the back of the cage from senior Amanda Wain and Milks scored again before halftime to give the Hornets a 3-0 edge at intermission. Junior attack Ashley Nelson tacked on an insurance goal in the second half.
Senior Tiffany Frye made two stops for LC and sophomore Melanie Tenney made a defensive save. Alanna Curtis made 13 saves for York (7-7). LC outshot the Spartans 23-4 and led in the penalty corner category 12-6.
Lynchburg (11-1) takes an 11-game winning streak into an all-important matchup Tuesday evening against third-ranked Franklin & Marshall College at 6:30 p.m. The battle of top five teams will be held at Shenandoah University.
