Hornets defeat Guilford in road-matchup
GREENSBORO, NC - The Lynchburg College baseball team won their second straight game on Sunday, defeating Guilford College 15-9 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. LC defeated Guilford on Saturday 9-2 at home, and have now won their second straight conference game.
Sophomore Michael Del Buono (Clifton, VA/Robinson) went 4-6 in the game with four RBI including a double and a two-run home run in the second inning. Senior Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) went 3-6 with a home run and four RBI on the day as well.
The Hornets led 4-3 heading into the top of the third inning when LC added four more runs. Senior Mike Walters (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) had a two-run triple in the inning while Colquhoun homered and Del Buono added one of his RBI to lead 8-3.
Senior Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford), sophomore Brock Shiflett (Henrico, VA/Steward School), freshman Zach Fitzpatrick (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh), sophomore Dan Savage (Ashburn, VA/Paul VI) and senior Richard Palase (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) all added a RBI each in the game. Palase went 4-6 during the afternoon.
Lynchburg led 15-5 going into the ninth inning before the Quakers added four runs to narrow the lead to six, but ultimately fell to LC 15-9.
Senior Brian Breedlove (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) started the game for the Hornets while freshman Michael Mansfield (Richmond, VA/Henrico) who came on in relief of Breedlove, earned the win (1-1).
Borja Jones-Berasaluce earned the loss for the Quakers (3-9/0-2 ODAC). Derek Hardison led Guilford with two RBI.
Lynchburg (5-5/2-0 ODAC) returns home on Wednesday to host Methodist at 3 p.m. on Fox Field.
