Lynchburg Defeats N.C. Wesleyan 4-2 in Season Opener
ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Sophomore Michael Kenah (Clifton, VA/Robinson) went 3-4 with two RBI as the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated North Carolina Wesleyan 4-2 on Wednesday in non-conference play.
Sophomore Brock Shiflett (Henrico, VA/Steward School) scored the first run of the game for the Hornets in the fourth inning after a sacrifice fly from freshman Jake Tanner (Big Island, VA/Liberty).
Tied 2-2 in the 5th inning with the bases loaded and two outs, Kenah singled, driving in two runners for the 4-2 lead.
Earning the win was senior Matt Morgan (Bedford, VA/Liberty) who pitched six innings, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out four. Junior Robert Garrett (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) pitched two innings of scoreless relief, giving up one hit and striking out two while sophomore Jared Millner (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
Casey Power led N.C. Wesleyan (2-1), going 1-4 with one RBI. The starting pitcher for the Bishops, Chad Womble, pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three hits and four runs.
Lynchburg (1-0) plays Berry College on Friday at 1 p.m. in Fayetteville, NC.
