#11 Stevens Tech Defeats #10 Lynchburg 13-10
LYNCHBURG, VA – The 11th-ranked Stevens Tech men's lacrosse team controlled the middle two quarters and held on for a 13-10 victory Wednesday evening at #10 Lynchburg College in non-conference play.
The Hornets' scored the first three goals of the game, two by sophomore attack Max Voumard (Cape May, NJ/St. Augustine Prep), but the Ducks scored three of their own to end the first period. The teams traded two tallies to begin the second stanza but Stevens Tech ended the half with two-straight scores to enter intermission ahead 7-5.
The Ducks scored four of the five goals in the third quarter to take an 11-6 edge and each squad scored twice in the first 9:30 of the final quarter. Two quick LC goals with just over three minutes to play and an extra-man opportunity brought the crowd back into the game, but the Stevens Tech defense held tight the remainder of the game.
Voumard scored three times for LC, while Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) and Ben Sauer (Richmond, VA/Collegiate School) each scored twice. Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East) had a goal and two assists and Chris Eggeling (Barrington, RI/Providence Country Day) and Andrew Wilfong (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) found the back of the net once.
Nicolas Philippi led a balanced Stevens Tech scoring attack with three goals. Christian Saley tallied two goals and an assist while Brandon Faubert, Kevin Rose and Alex Hofrichter each had two scores.
Stevens Tech (6-0) out-shot Lynchburg 55-36. Matt Jernack (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River) won nine of his 11 face-off attempts for Lynchburg.
Lynchburg (4-3) hosts #9 Roanoke College Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the Hornets' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener.
