Hornets Defeat Hampden-Sydney 10-7
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Senior starting pitcher Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) threw seven solid innings as the Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Hampden-Sydney College 10-7 on Tuesday afternoon.
Watkins earned his third win on the season by giving up only three runs off seven hits and striking out three. Also hitting for the Hornets as the DH, he went 3-4 with a RBI and a walk. Junior Ragan Rudisill (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) and junior Richard Palase (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) anchored the top of the order with two RBI each.
Lynchburg jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second inning after Watkins, Palase and Rudisill each had RBI-singles consecutively. The Tigers answered back with two runs in the bottom of the second while both teams went scoreless for the next three innings. LC put up three in the top of the six and two runs in the top of the seventh for an 8-2 lead.
Hampden-Sydney stormed back with five runs in the bottom of the eighth but Lynchburg was able to get two runs in the top of the ninth from Rudisill and senior Mike Walters (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) who hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
Junior Jared Millner (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) closed out the game for Lynchburg earning his fourth save.
Connor Bradley took the loss for the Tigers (15-14/5-6 ODAC) while Beau Flinchum went 3-4 with three RBI.
Lynchburg (15-12/8-3 ODAC) heads to Averett University on Friday for a non-conference game beginning at 3 pm.
