Hornets Sweep Emory & Henry on Senior Day

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team swept Emory & Henry College on Sunday on Senior Day, 2-0 and 10-3 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

Using four pitchers in the first game, Lynchburg held the Wasps to no runs while capturing a run in the fourth and the seventh. Sophomore Michael Del Buono (Clifton, VA/Robinson) hit a deep sacrifice fly to score senior Mike Walters (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) in the bottom of the fourth after Walters tripled to lead off the inning.

Sophomore Dan Savage (Ashburn, VA/Paul VI) doubled in Del Buono in the seventh inning to put LC up 2-0.  Senior Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) earned the win on the mound, his fifth of the season while junior Jared Millner (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) earned his eighth save of the season.

Todd Cross got the start for Emory & Henry and earned the loss while giving up five hits and striking out six.

In the second game, the Wasps jumped to a early 2-0 lead in the first inning but was quickly answered by a two-run home run from senior Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) in the bottom of the frame.

Lynchburg added a run in the second off a sophomore Brock Shiflett (Henrico, VA/Steward School) home run after missing the last 18 games due to injury. With a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, LC tacked on four runs before adding another two in the seventh eventually winning 10-3.

Freshman Jake Tanner (Big Island, VA/Liberty) went 2-4 with two RBI and Walters went 3-4 with two RBI in the second game.

Freshman James Womack (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) earned his sixth win of the season while Jessup Lambert took the loss for Emory & Henry (5-25/4-14 ODAC).

Lynchburg (22-13/14-4 ODAC) will now wait to see where they will be placed in the ODAC Tournament coming up later this week. Announcements about the tournament will be made when available.
