#6 Hornet Field Hockey Wins 2-0 on Senior Day
LYNCHBURG, VA – The sixth-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team notched a hard-fought 2-0 victory Saturday over visiting Randolph-Macon College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play as a part of the College's Parents and Family Weekend and Senior Day.
The Hornets fired 21 shots in the first half but couldn't find the back of the cage in the first 35 minutes, as Yellow Jacket goalie Nicole Woodworth made seven stops and Meredith Young saved a goal with a defensive save.
Lynchburg finally broke through at 44:26, as freshman attack Danielle Kreider deflected in a shot from Lindsay Leonard. Junior midfielder Shelly Milks tacked on another score 28 seconds later, arching a high shot just over the reach of the goalie. Woodworth made 18 second-half saves to keep her team in the game and finished with 26 stops.
The Hornets (7-1/1-0 ODAC) fired 51 shots to R-MC's three and held a 17-4 edge in penalty corners. Senior keeper Tiffany Frye made two saves to earn the shutout.
Lynchburg travels to Roanoke College Thursday evening for another ODAC match-up at 6 p.m.
