Lynchburg Baseball Splits With Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team split with Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, losing the first game 6-4 and winning the second game 7-5 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

In the first game, sophomore Dustin Arrowood had two RBI to lead the Hornets. Senior Robert Garrett pitched six and one-thirds innings, giving up four hits and three runs. Junior Brock Shiflett went 2-4 with one RBI

LC took an initial 2-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI-single from Shiflett to score senior Richard Palase. Arrowood then lined out to centerfield for a sacrifice fly plating Shiflett.

Junior Michael Del Buono scored in the top of the sixth off an error and Arrowood hit another sacrifice fly to put LC up 4-0. Randolph-Macon though scored four unanswered runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie up the game. RMC then put up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for an eventual 6-4 win for the Yellow Jackets.

Jake Fletcher led Randolph-Macon with two RBI while Ryan Wood pitched the last two innings for the win.

In the second game of the doubleheader, LC once again put up two runs in the first with an RBI from Shiflett and junior Dan Savage. RMC added two runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game up at two.

In the top of the fourth, freshman Lincoln Evans lined out, scoring junior Ashton Paige for a 3-2 Lynchburg lead before the Yellow Jackets added a run in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at three. Arrowood put Lynchburg up with a  sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth, but was answered with two RMC scores in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Junior Michael Kenah had an RBI-triple in the sixth to tie the game up at five. Lynchburg would take a 7-5 lead in the eighth off a triple from Palase which scored two runs.

Sophomore James Womack earned the win while Kevin Soltis took the loss for Randolph-Macon (5-8-1/3-1 ODAC)

Lynchburg (10-4/2-2 ODAC) hosts Ferrum College on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
