EMORY, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team split its doubleheader with Emory and Henry College on Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. Lynchburg won the first game 25-4 while dropping the second game 10-8. The loss snaps LC's 14-game win streak.

With the split, the Hornets have clinched the #1 seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Bridgewater College sits two conference wins below LC, with two games to play and Lynchburg holding the tie-breaker.

Lynchburg exploded for 25 runs in the first game, with senior Richard Palase hitting two home runs in the game for a total of four RBI. Sophomore Dustin Arrowood had a team-high five RBI while crossing the plate three times. Juniors Michael Kenah, Dan Savage and Ashton Paige contributed three RBI as well.

In the first inning, LC put up nine runs with junior Michael Del Buono and Savage providing the first two tallies. Arrowood then doubled to left center for two RBI while Paige knocked a two-run single. Freshman Lincoln Evans had a sacrifice fly before Kenah belting a two-run home run.

Emory and Henry scored one in the bottom of the frame while Palase homered in the top of the third for a 10-1 lead. Savage doubled in the fourth to score junior Brock Shiflett before Paige singled in Savage for a two-run fourth.

Savage had an RBI in the fifth, while Arrowood had a three-run double and came home on an error for a 17-1 lead. Palase homered in the sixth before the Wasps scored three in the sixth. Sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick came home on an error and Shiflett drove in two RBI in the seventh to push the advantage to 21-4.

Palase plated two runs while junior Michael Burks and Kenah provided an RBI the eighth as LC closed the game out 25-4.

Senior Robert Garrett pitched six innings, giving up four runs and striking out six, winning his fifth game of the year.

Remington Hedgepeth, Collin Metz and Logan Ball all had one RBI for the Wasps.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Emory & Henry came out swinging the bats with seven combined runs in the first two innings. Freshman Pat Harris launched a two-run home run, the first of his career, in the third to put the Hornets on the board.

After the Wasps tacked on a run in the fourth to lead 8-2, LC added three runs in the top of the fifth to narrow the lead. Kenah singled in a run before Arrowood reached first on an error which led to two runs scoring.

In the bottom of the sixth, Emory & Henry's Logan Ball homered and the Wasps added another in the seventh, pushing the lead to 10-5.

Paige had a sacrifice fly in the eighth, while Harris doubled in a run to bring LC within three. Paige scored Del Buono in the ninth, but the rally fell short with Lynchburg falling 10-8.

Jessup Lambert started the game, earning the win for the Wasps (12-21/9-7 ODAC). Hedgepeth and Eric Houff each had two RBI in the nightcap.

Lynchburg (28-7/13-3 ODAC) heads to Ferrum College on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference matchup.
