Savage's Eight RBI Highlight LC Baseball's Doubleheader Sweep Over Bridgewater

LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior Dan Savage notched a combined eight RBI on Saturday in Lynchburg College baseball's doubleheader sweep over Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.  Lynchburg distanced themselves from Bridgewater for the top spot in the conference with a now 11-2 record in the ODAC. Bridgewater now holds a 9-4 record in conference.

Savage cranked out two three-run homeruns in the second game and was a triple short of a cycle. He added another RBI in the nightcap for a total of seven in the second game, while also knocking in a run in the first tilt.

In the first game, Lynchburg put up four runs in the first while senior Robert Garrett stymied any offense from the Eagles. Savage put up the game's first run before sophomore Dustin Arrowood tripled to right center driving in three, to put LC up 4-0.

Garrett went seven strong innings, giving up only four hits and striking out six. He only issued one walk on the day. Freshman Brandon Miller pitched the last two innings to close out the game.

Kevin Chandler took the loss for Bridgewater, his first of the year.

The second game proved to be a complete opposite of the first, with both teams bringing out the offense.

Lynchburg again put four runs up in the first frame. Junior Michael Kenah doubled in a run before Savage homered to left field making it a 4-0 lead.

Bridgewater scored one in the second and three in the third which included a two-run homerun from Bryan Sanderson. The Eagles then added five in the fifth for a 9-4 lead.

With one of the top offenses in the nation, LC opened up the fifth with eight runs. Savage homered again for three runs. Junior Ashton Paige, freshman Lincoln Evans, Kenah and junior Michael Del Buono all added an RBI with Savage putting up a RBI single at the end of the inning, making it a 12-9 game.

In the eighth inning, Kenah tripled with the bases loaded, while junior Brock Shiflett, Arrowood, and sophomore Zach Fitzpatrick each helped put in runs for an 18-9 lead.

Sophomore Michael Mansfield got the start before giving way to Miller and freshman Martin Henderlite who picked up the win. Sophomore James Womack picked up his first save of the year.

Zach Hynes and Sanderson led the Eagles (22-10/9-4 ODAC) with two RBI each. Corey Armentrout picked up the loss on the mound.

Lynchburg (26-6/11-2 ODAC) heads to Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday for an ODAC game at 3:30 p.m.
