Lynchburg Baseball Strikes Early and Often in 10-3 Victory

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team rode a strong fourth inning that saw the Hornets plate five runs in route to a 10-3 victory over Tufts University in non-conference action held at Lynchburg City Stadium.

LC got on the board first in the third inning as sophomore Lincoln Evans singled to shortstop with one out. During the next at bat Evans stole second before senior Ashton Paige singled to right field, putting runners on the corners. Senior Michael Kenah continued his torrid streak at the plate, singling home Evans and one out later, senior Dan Savage doubled into right, scoring both Paige and Kenah for a 3-0 lead.

The Hornets did everything but homer in the fourth inning, plating five runs and taking a commanding lead. Sophomore Joe Rogers and junior Dustin Arrowood led off the fourth with back-to-back singles before a sacrifice bunt moved them over. Junior Jake Tanner laced a double to right-center field that scored Rogers and Arrowood before Paige tripled a batter later, scoring Tanner and Evans, who had reach on an error.

Lynchburg picked up its eighth run when Paige took off for home on a steal attempt of second base by Kenah, who had been hit by a pitch. Kenah was out on the play, but there was no return throw home as the senior, Paige, scampered across the plate for an 8-1 lead.

Sophomore Jay Kenyon and Kenah collected an RBI each in the fifth and sixth inning, respectively, for the Hornets.

Sophomore Charlie Thieringer pitched the final three innings for LC to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Lynchburg sophomore Martin Henderlite worked around three walks, allowing two runs in six innings of work for his fifth win of the 2013 campaign.

Evans led the Hornets with a 3-for-4 day with three runs scored while Paige, Kenah, Savage, and Tanner had two RBI each.

The Tufts (6-3) duo of Andrew David and Josh Manning combined to strike out eight Hornets in eight innings of work.

Lynchburg (12-10) returns home Saturday for a doubleheader with Southern Virginia University (12-7). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
