Second-Half Goals Propel Hornets on Homecoming and Senior Day

LYNCHBURG, VA – The #4 Lynchburg College women's soccer team scored two goals in the second half to defeat Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Washington and Lee University 2-0 on Saturday.  LC honored the five seniors, Dessi Dupuy, Angela Bosco, Jenn Snyder, Dana Nelsen, and Kara Schaffer, before the game and was also special as two previous women's soccer teams were being inducted into the Lynchburg College Athletics Hall of Fame.

The first half brought much of what was expected when two of the best team in goals against average in the nation square off: zero goals.  Lynchburg registered more shots during the period, with nine coming from the Hornets.  Of the nine, five were on net, with Dupuy recording two of them.  However, Generals goalkeeper Addie Healy made four saves, with a defender preventing the fifth from going in the net right before intermission.

In the second half, Lynchburg once again came out of the gate firing.  Marina Clark sent one just wide of the net just over a minute into the half.  Then, after a foul by W&L, Jade Woll finally broke through for the Hornets, sending her shot into the back of the net.

LC kept on the pressure throughout the half, but Washington and Lee managed to keep the score at 1-0.  In the 81st minute, the Hornets doubled the lead thanks to Morgan SingerEmily Maxwell sent a cross in front of the net, which Singer finished for the 2-0 advantage.

Tess Frelick saw only one shot on net, but it was in the waning seconds of the game, as she made the stop to preserve another shutout.  It was the 11th in a row for the Hornets.

Healy made eight saves overall for the Generals (10-1-1 overall, 8-1 ODAC).  While both teams earned three corner kicks, Lynchburg held a major advantage in shots (20-7) and shots on goal (11-1).

LC (16-0, 9-0) will head to Sweet Briar on Tuesday afternoon for its final road ODAC contest of the year.  First kick is set for 4:30 p.m.
