#26 LC Baseball Outslugged by #21 Shenandoah in Losses

LYNCHBURG, VA – The No. 26 Lynchburg College baseball team was outscored 26-8 by No. 21 Shenandoah University in a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference losses Saturday. SU took the first game 15-2 before coming back for an 11-6 victory in game two.

Lynchburg fell behind 9-0 after the first four innings as J.J. McDaniel and Nolan Overby bookended the charge with two-run homers, the latter of which was of the inside-the-park variety.

James Womack entered for the home Hornets in the fourth inning and, after a rocky start, settled in against the nation's top scoring offense. Womack went the fifth, sixth and seventh innings unfazed before encountering trouble in the eighth with a pair of walks.

LC turned to the bullpen, but three more walks and a double saw the home Hornets looking at a six in the eighth-inning spot on the scoreboard and a 15-1 deficit.

Joe Tomasulo drove in LC's run in the seventh and singled in the ninth which allowed Jake Tanner to score on an outfield error.

Lynchburg was undaunted by the first game, charging back from a 2-1 deficit to take a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning.

Joe Rogers led off the inning and after a sacrifice bunt, Pat Harris doubled him home to tie the game. An out later, Tanner and Rob Tomasulo connected on RBI singles.

The lead would not last long as Shenandoah's Michael Paul singled with one out. A hit by pitch and a walk later, the bases were loaded for Joe Bittner. The new reliever, Trevor Martin, induced a fly out, but a walk to Dan Powers and singles by Lew Johnson and Billy Arens made the score 6-4 in favor of the visitors. A double-steal allowed Arens to score SU's fifth run of the frame.

Dustin Arrowood drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 7-5, but the visitors plated two runs in the eighth and two more in ninth to put Lynchburg away.

Corbin Lucas, Arens and Johnson each had three hits in game two for Shenandoah (25-5/14-2).

Rob Tomasulo went 4-for-5 for Lynchburg while Harris contributed two RBI as part of a 2-for-4 day.

Lynchburg (20-8/8-7) travels to Roanoke College (12-16/5-11) for an ODAC matchup Sunday at 2 p.m.
