#19 Hornets Even Record with 4-1 Victory over Swarthmore
SWARTHMORE, PA - The No. 19 Lynchburg College field hockey team collected its first win of the season on Sunday, prevailing 4-1 over Swarthmore College in non-conference action.
The Hornets got on the board three minutes into the contest as Kelsey Link scored her second goal in as many days off a Kayla Krause assist. Lynchburg struck again at 19:25 when Morgan Lammando dribbled the ball up the right endline and found Danielle Kreider behind the goalie for a 2-0 lead.
Courtney Gillette added one more first-half tally for the Hornets when she corralled her own rebound and scored past the Swarthmore keeper.
Katherine Ianni found Ursula Monaghan to end Lynchburg's shutout bid. It was one of three shots Swarthmore got off in the second half.
One of the Hornets' two second-half shots hit the back of the cage when Lacey Elliott found Taylor Quillen in front of the goal.
Lynchburg outshot the Garnet (0-2) 36-11 and maintained a 16-6 advantage in penalty corners. Ainsley Parrish made 18 saves for Swarthmore. Beka Hess added five saves for the Hornets.
Lynchburg (1-1) travels to No. 4 Christopher Newport University (1-0) Wednesday, September 3 for 6:30 p.m. start.
