Guilford Baseball Scores 11-4 win at LC
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Guilford College baseball team broke open a close game with six late runs to claim an 11-4 win at Lynchburg College Tuesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The Quakers scored two runs in the top of the first, and LC plated one in the bottom of the second as Guilford turned a double play. GC opened a 5-1 edge with three more runs in the third with Tyler Petersen and Austin Wilson hitting run-scoring singles.
The Hornets cut into the lead with a run in the third and two more in the fifth. A wild pitch pushed across the runner in the third while Lynchburg loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth. Austin Owens singled in Joe Rogers and Jonathan Munn crossed the plate on a fielder's choice to make the score 5-4.
Guilford had four hits and was aided by an error in the eighth to score three more and forge an 8-4 lead. GC tacked on three more runs in the final inning.
David Goulding worked seven innings, allowing just three earned runs while scattering 11 hits for Lynchburg. Andrew Martin was credited with the win for Guilford (8-17/4-10 ODAC), throwing two scoreless and hitless innings.
Munn went 4-4 for the Hornets, and Rogers had two hits. Guilford compiled 18 hits, with four each off the bats of Herc Ingles and Charles Noble.
The Hornets (7-14/3-4 ODAC) host Bridgewater College Wednesday at 1 p.m. in an ODAC doubleheader.
