Baseball Set to Resume Play with Some Changes Announced

LYNCHBURG, VA-The Lynchburg College baseball team is ready for action after weather derailed several weeks of the spring sports season.

The Hornets, set to host Eastern University (0-4) on Friday for a noon doubleheader, will still play the Eagles but the location will be moved to the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, North Carolina. The games are still scheduled for the same time.

Lynchburg has not played since February 25, a road loss to Averett University. Now that the Friday doubleheader has been moved to a neutral site, LC still has yet to play on Fox Field as the Lynchburg Baseball Tournament and three individual games have been moved or cancelled.

KC Caldwell and Drew Taylor have provided sparks recently since moving back into the starting lineup. Caldwell is batting .500 in five games while Taylor or hitting at a .417 clip in the same number of games. The duo have produced seven of LC's 25 RBI, nearly one-third of the team's output.

The Eagles are coming off a doubleheader with Methodist University on Wednesday, dropping both contests by a combined score of 23-4. Angelo Kelly leads Eastern in the early going with a .600 batting average.

Lynchburg (1-6/0-0 ODAC) will then get a rare Saturday off as games scheduled against Washington and Lee University (2-1/0-0) were postponed due to poor field conditions related to the weather in Lexington.

LC is set to conclude the weekend with one game at Roanoke College (1-2/0-0) at 2 p.m. on Sunday. It will be the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) for the Hornets. Roanoke will play host to Shenandoah University on Saturday to open league play.

Lynchburg had two high-scoring contests with the Maroons last season, dropping the road contest 9-7 before winning 8-7 at home on a walk-off single by Wil Parsons. The victory, played on the last day of the regular season, clinched an ODAC tournament spot for the Hornets.
