Box Score Greensboro, N.C. -- The Hornets recorded 21 shots and earned 13 corners en route to a drubbing of another opponent, defeating Guilford 8-0.
Senior Samantha Bagherpour put the Hornets up on the scoreboard early after her shot was deflected into goal from about 20 yards out and added a second tally on the night just six minutes later after she curled in a corner that missed everyone, including the keeper, and put the Hornets up 2-0 after just 13 minutes.
Sophomore Caitlin Mertens gathered the ball at the top of the box in the 22nd minute and hit the B button, spinning off a defender and firing a rocket that found the back of the net and only three minutes freshman Madalyn Amos set up freshman Georgie Duggan for her second goal on the season, extending the Lynchburg lead to 4-0.
Just seconds before half, Lynchburg was awarded a free kick and senior Elizabeth Oden was set to provide a service to one of her teammates but the Quakers misplayed the cross and Odenwas credited with the Hornet's fifth goal.
Bagherpour also tallied an assist after sending in a corner that senior Kelley Smith whipped past the keeper with a poweful header in 49th minute to put put the Hornets comfortably ahead.
Freshman Marissa Inglisa notched her third goal in two games after scoring off of a through ball from sophomore Sarah Hammock just three minutes after Smith's rocket header. Sophomore Kennedy Jakubek rounded out the Hornet's scoring and registered goal number six on the season following a magnificent sequence of footwork that helped her split the Guilford defense and uncork a central shot from the top of the box.
The Hornet defense, ranked second in the nation with a goals against average of .094, gave senior Tess Frelick another easy night between the pipes as they allowed only two shots on the night. Frelick registered her 10th shutout and moves to 8-0-3 while for the second game in a row both back up goalies, sophomore Delia LoSapio and freshman Caitlin Dorsch, saw time on the pitch.
Lynchburg was led by Bagherpour who rifled off four shots while Jakubek and Duggan tallied three each and a trio of Hornets posted two shots. Lynchburg is ranked second in the nation averaging just under 29 shots a game.
The ladies have two home games next week, first a clash with Washington & Lee on Oct. 12 and then Shenandoah for Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 15th.
