Box Score York, Pa. -- The relentless rain did not help the fast-paced offense of Lynchburg as the Hornets dropped their second straight game, losing to the York (Pa.) Saturday afternoon, 5-2.
The Hornets got on the scoreboard first after sophomore Nikki Simpao rattled the cage following a rebound off a corner. With the goal, Simpao now has recorded at least one point in the past six games. The Spartans responded with a breakaway goal three minutes later and the teams would head into half all tied up, 1-1.
The second half was a different story. In the first 10 minutes, Ali Posey of York (Pa.) registered a hat-trick and another Spartan goal in the 57th minute gave the home team a comfortable lead at 5-1.
Simpao would ripped a shot, after a corner insertion, that beat the keeper with just five minutes left. Freshman Keely Lunsmann earned an assist on the goal, her second on the season and first since Sept. 13.
The Spartans held the advantage in shots, 25-10 and in penalty corners, 11-6. Simpao led the Hornets with four shots while senior Ashley Heuberger and junior Hannah Krause added two more each. Senior goalkeeper Beka Hess recorded 11 saves but drops to 5-6 on the season after the loss.
The Hornets look to flip the script and find a groove next Saturday, Oct. 15th when they hsot Washington & Lee 12:30 p.m. for Homecoming weekend.
