LC Baseball Sweeps Greensboro College
GREENSBORO, NC - The Lynchburg College baseball team swept Greensboro College in a double header Sunday afternoon 5-3 and 8-4 in non-conference play.
Greensboro got on the board in the first inning and lead the Hornets 2-0 after three innings of play. LC rallied in the fourth inning for three runs to take a 3-2 lead.
Matt Ward drove in
Luke Rodgers with a double to start the frame and
Will Harris hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Rodgers. The inning was capped off by a
Nathan Sharp single to give the Hornets the lead.
Tyler Johnson would extend the lead to two runs the following inning with an RBI single before an error in the bottom of fifth inning let Greensboro cut into the lead 4-3. Harris singled in the seventh inning to provide an insurance run.
David Goulding battled into sixth inning before he was relieved by
Trevor Martin after only allowing one earned run and striking out six members of the Pride over 5 2/3 innings. Martin got the Hornets out of a jam with two runners in scoring position to pick up the save.
Greensboro took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning of the nightcap. LC answered back in the following frame when
Matthew Cotton delivered a bases loaded double that scored three runs. The Pride would go up a run the following inning before LC once again answered back with a big fifth inning that was highlighted by another bases-loaded, three-run double, this one from Sharp.
Ryan Irby was unscored upon in the final three and 2/3 innings to earn the victory.
The Hornets (2-2) host Messiah College Saturday for their home opener in a double header that starts at noon.
