LC Baseball Splits ODAC Doubleheader with E&H
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Monday, taking the first game 8-4, while Emory & Henry College won game two 13-3.
E&H got on the board early in the opener, pushing across a run in the first inning. LC scored twice in the fourth, Tyler Johnson and Brad Hylton singled with one out and Matthew Cotton walked to load the bases. Will Harris brought home one run with a single and Thomas Powell hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-1.
Cotton singled in the sixth and later scored on an error by E&H. The Wasps cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the seventh, but Lynchburg exploded for five runs in the bottom of the frame. Hylton and Harris each singled to score runs. Powell doubled to bring home another run and Ryan Katona hit a two-run single to push the lead to 8-2. Emory & Henry scored two more in the top of the eighth but could get no closer.
David Goulding went seven innings to earn his fourth win of the season. He struck out 11 batters and scattered eight hits and one walk. Hylton had three hits and scored twice, while Harris and Tomasulo each had two hits. Hunter Jeffries had three base-hits for the Wasps.
Emory & Henry again took an early lead in the nightcap, this time 3-0 after two innings. LC rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. Powell drove in the first run with an infield single and Tomasulo had a two-run base-hit.
The Wasps broke the game open with six runs in the seventh inning and four more in the top of the ninth. E&H had 14 hits and took advantage of four LC errors. Brandon Lineberry was 2-5 with four RBI while Eli Straw and Ben Barnett each had three hits for the Wasps (5-17/2-5 ODAC).
Powell and Drew Taylor had two hits apiece for Lynchburg.
LC (7-13/3-4 ODAC) hosts Averett University Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference game played at City Stadium, the home of the Lynchburg Hillcats.
