Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg Men's Soccer team defeated Juniata 9-0 on Saturday afternoon and have recorded clean sheets in their first three games.
The Hornets wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as senior Thomas Salamone whipped in a cross from the right side, which junior Ryan Mayolo rifled into the back of the net and set the tone for the rest of the game. Mayolo then switched roles and fed both senior Fredy Flores and junior Collin Kashmer with beautiful balls with which both players were abel to finsh with ease and put the Hornets up 3-0 only 12 minutes into the game.
Only five minutes passed before the Hornets struck again as Flores found the feet of fellow senior Adam Reynolds, who finessed a shot that beat the keeper and downed the Juniata spirit even further. With the large lead, Lynchburg began subbing in young players to gain experience, one of which being freshman Nick Morgan.
The first year forward sent the Eagle backline into a fritz as he scored after only being on the pitch for 20 seconds. That was the last goal of the first half for the Hornets but sure not their last.
The second half was not much different as Morgan again found himself involved in a scoring opportunity and once again was able to slot a shot past the keeper, increasing the lead to 6-0. Two freshmen connected on a goal as Sherman Mitchell recieved a ball from Chad Fluharty with which he unleashed a powerful shot and scored the first goal of his career. Freshman defender Logan Polen also joined in on the scoring in the 63rd minute and just like Mitchell, tallied the first goal of his young career. Morgan added another goal to his tally and finished the spectacular day with a hat trick, the first of the season for the Hornets.
With a stout defense and skilled attack, the Hornets look to continue their unbeaten streak as they head to the Peach State for contests on Sept. 16 and 17 against Oglethorpe and Berry.
