The Lynchburg Sports Information Department along with LHSN would like to apologize for the absence of live video for this game, there were technical difficuties on our service providers end causing there to be no live feed of the game.
The Tigers entered the game on a two-game losing streak and were looking to ruin Lynchburg's big win on Wednesday with an upset.
From the start, anyone watching the game could tell that it was going to be an agressive duel and fouls were going to be called and they were, as the teams were called for 18 combined fouls but suprisingly no cards were issued.
The Hornets dominated the first half, outshooting the Tigers 5-1 and earning two corner kicks while Hampden-Sydney did not have one.
The lone goal was a splendid sequence of events. Lynchburg gathered the ball at the midfield line and senior Ricardo Manosalvas was fed the ball down the right sideline and in front of the Hampden-Sydney bench. As he was passed the ball, he boxed out his defender and essentially sending himself on a run as the ball continued down the line.
He took a touch and looked up for his options. Lynchburg did a good job of filling the box once the ball had gone out wide and this was no exception. At least five Hornet players filled the box and were ready to give their team the lead.
Manosalvas put his head back down and sent a curling ball into the box but it wasn't very high and looked to end up short of any Lynchburg player. Senior Adam Reynolds recognized that and moved into position to recieve the cross. With powerful flick of his head, the forward redirected the service catching the Tigers goalkeeper, Cameron McFarlane, off guard and allowing the ball to hit the back of the net.
Reynolds now has three goals on the season while Manosalvas collects his first point for the year on the assist.
Senior Ben Grossfuss and junior Jon Mackey each had two shots while seven other Hornets recorded one shot each. Sophomore Dylan McLaurin only made one save but was called into action multiple times, mostly punching crosses out of the box and away from danger.
The Hornets move to 6-0-2 and 1-0 in the conference for the 2016 campaign. The men head back onto the pitch for a road game against Guilford College this Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 pm and return home next Saturday, Oct. 1 for a duel with Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00 pm.
