-
The visitors put four more runs on the board in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a Lynchburg miscue and a couple wild pitches that moved baserunners into scoring position.
-
Junior right-hander Graham Boggio (Midlothian, Va.) hurled four shutout innings to end the game, and Lynchburg got runners into scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings but failed to score.
Game 2
-
Pushing two runs across in the first inning of Game 2, Shenandoah assumed an early lead again, but Wood halved the lead with a solo homer in the third.
-
Wood brought the big stick again in the fifth, doubling down the left-field line that plated a run. Lynchburg took the lead on the next batter when senior designated hitter Matthew Stevens (Annandale, Va.) scored on a wild pitch. Senior first baseman Matt Ward (Newton, N.C.) made it 4-2 LC an inning later with an RBI double of his own.
-
Wood came to bat with the bases loaded in the eighth and poked a bases-clearing double to the warning track in left field that made it 7-2 in favor of the home team.
-
Shenandoah pushed a run across in the top of the ninth, but Goulding induced a game-ending double-play ball on the next batter.
