Bridgewater edges out men's tennis, 5-4

Bridgewater, Va. -- The Lynchburg College men's tennis team dropped its third Old Dominion Athletic Conference match of the season, losing a tight 5-4 battle at host Bridgewater on Friday afternoon.

Lynchburg got off to a solid start, taking two of the three doubles matches. No. 2 team of sophomore Zack Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and junior Nick Savino (Bristol, Conn.) won a hotly contested match, 8-6, while sophomore Juan Borga (Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA) and senior Colton Mullins (Appomattox, Va.) followed suit with an 8-5 triumph at No. 3.

But the Eagles came back with a vengeance in the singles section of play; only Borga and Shane managed victories in solo action.

Freshman Luke Sablik (Vienna, Va.) had the best shot to make the difference at No. 2, battling hard in both sets, but eventually falling 7-5, 7-6 in what wound up the deciding match.

The Hornet men will have more than a week's hiatus from competition, next taking the court Sunday, April 8 at home versus Virginia Wesleyan. Action on the LC Tennis Courts is set for 2:30 p.m. on that date.
