Lynchburg, Va. -- Lynchburg College's men's tennis program celebrated Senior Day with a key 6-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Randolph-Macon Thursday at the LC Tennis Courts.
Thursday's win is the Lynchburg men's team's first over Randolph-Macon since March 1, 2011.
The victory guarantees the Hornets the No. 6 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, setting up a match at the winner of Saturday's match between Virginia Wesleyan and Hampden-Sydney. The victor in that contest will be the third seed in the bracket.
LC started the match off with a pair of doubles wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. Junior Nick Savino (Bristol, Conn.) and freshman Luke Sablik (Vienna, Va.) won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and sophomore Juan Borga (Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA) and junior Colton Mullins (Appomattox, Va.) won by the same score at No. 3.
Borga then set the tone in singles with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1, and three of the Hornets lineup followed suit. Sablik gutted out a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win at No. 3, and sophomore Zack Shane (Falls Church, Va.) cruised at No. 4, winning 6-1, 6-1. With the match already decided, Savino put an exclamation point on the win with a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (9) triumph at No. 6.
Lynchburg will now plan to hit the road on Wednesday, May 2 for the first round of ODAC tournament play. They will learn Saturday if the destination is to be Hampden-Sydney or Virginia Wesleyan.
