Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team's offense provided 13 hits in Game 1, and junior right-hander Hunter Campbell (Lynchburg, Va.) twirled a one-hit shutout in Game 2 as the Hornets rolled to an Old Dominion Athletic Conference sweep, 10-7 and 3-0, of Eastern Mennonite Saturday afternoon.
The gem was Campbell's first collegiate win and Lynchburg's first complete-game shutout since David Goulding tossed one March 5, 2016 in a win over Bridgewater.
Campbell allowed Royals' leadoff man Jordan Jones a single in the first at bat of the game, but he didn't allow another knock, striking out two and walking two over nine scoreless innings.
Meanwhile, freshman center fielder Carrson Atkins (Charlottesville, Va.), sophomore second baseman Parker Shaffer (Richmond, Va.) and freshman left fielder Kaden Warren (Berryville, Va.) each collected three hits on the day for the Hornets. Atkins drove in two Hornet runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
-
Lynchburg drew first blood with a run in the second innings and two more in the third, but EMU rallied with a four-run fourth and led 7-3 after six innings of play.
-
Sophomore right-hander Santiago Meneses (Guatemala City, GUATEMALA) posted a scoreless relief inning that the Lynchburg offense followed with a five-run rally to take the lead. Atkins and graduate student right fielder Kinston Carson (Tappahannock, Va.) had RBI singles in the inning, and the Royals made a pair of errors.
-
Carson followed Meneses on the mound as the left-hander went two scoreless innings to earn his first save as a Hornet.
Game 2
-
EMU's Jordan Jones stroked a leadoff single against Campbell in the nightcap, but that's all the offense the Royals would muster. Just three other EMU players reached base in the game as the junior right-hander cruised on the mound.
-
Lynchburg's offense gave Campbell some run support in the third by means of Carson's RBI fielder's choice.
-
The Hornets added insurance in the seventh on RBI hits by freshman catcher Holden Fiedler (Henrico, Va.) and freshman shortstop Brian Sheeder (Sutherlin, Va.) to help Campbell's cause down the stretch.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hornets will return to ODAC action Wednesday, March 20 when rival Hampden-Sydney comes to town for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
