Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's tennis team made it two wins in a row to open the season, besting St. Mary's (Md.), 7-2, at home Saturday.
The Hornets jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play with victories at No. 2 by sophomore Daniel Christian (Jamestown, N.C.) and senior Nick Savino (Bristol, Conn.), 8-4, and at No. 3 by senior Colton Mullins (Appomattox, Va.) and sophomore Vincent Oliver (Springfield, Va.), 8-0.
Oliver highlighted the Hornets in singles play as well with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Mullins won handily at No. 2, 6-3, 6-1, while Christian picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the third flight.
Savino won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4, while junior Brad Carson (Severna Park, Md.) polished off the win with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Lynchburg's matches with York (Pa.) scheduled for Sunday have been postponed due to rain in the forecast. The Hornets will be back in action Tuesday, March 5, when William Peace comes to town for a 3 p.m. match.
