Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's tennis team stayed perfect on the young season Tuesday afternoon with a 7-2 non-conference win over William Peace on the Lynchburg Tennis Courts.
Lynchburg took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as senior Nick Savino (Bristol, Conn.) and sophomore Daniel Christian (Jamestown, N.C.) earned an 8-3 win at No. 2 slot and the Hornets took a forfeit at No. 3.
Lynchburg then took four of the five singles matches in straight sets, led by a 6-0, 6-0 win for Savino at No. 4 and a 6-1, 6-0 victory by sophomore Shawn Ikegami (Kumamoto, JAPAN) at No. 5.
Senior Bryce Barber (Evington, Va.) and Christian also won their matches at Nos. 2 and 3, and the Hornets picked up another point on a forfeit at the sixth slot.
It is the fist time a Lynchburg men's tennis team has started 3-0 since the 1995 season.
Lynchburg's tennis teams will hit the road for Hilton Head Island, S.C. next week on their annual Spring Break trip. Their first match of the Spring Tennis Fest will be against Gordon at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 10 at Chaplin Park.
