Lexington, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's and women's track and field teams competed at the annual VMI Keydet Invitational on Friday and Saturday and came home with new program records in the men's distance medley relay and in the women's shot put.
The men's distance medley relay comprised of graduate student Tristan Lucy-Speidel, junior Jordan Short, sophomore William Fowler, and senior Reid Sharkey finished with a time of 10:20.40 and took home a second place finish overall, crushing the old record by six seconds. Their mark currently ranks second in Division III.
On the women's side, senior Sammi Woods set a new program record in shot put as the Fredericksburg native threw for 13.13 meters, besting the old mark that was set in 2013.
In the women's triple jump, Keaira Reese (10.67m) and LaMaya Lacy (10.62m) finished 15 and 16 overall and added their names to the record books as their jumps put them at eighth and ninth, respectively, on the all-time top 10.
On the men's side, senior Shawn Gmurek put himself fourth all-time on the top-10 as he took home sixth overall in the 800m run with a season best time of 1:56.90. Sophomore sprinter Alex Shadkhoo finished 11th of 54 in the 200m dash with a time of 22.319, which puts him third on the all-time list.

The University of Lynchburg track and field team will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25 as the Hornets will compete in the Finn Pincus Invite at Roanoke College in Salem.
