Lexington, Va. -- Sophomore sprinter Alex Shadkhoo set a new school record in the men's 200-meter dash, highlighting Univesity of Lynchburg's indoor track & field team's performances at the VMI Indoor Classic Friday and Saturday.
Shadkoo's time of 21.78 was good for third overall and the top Division III time in the event. He now holds the third-best time in the nation for Divison III and the top time in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Continuing on the men's side, junior Jordan Short ran a new PR of 50.07 in the 400 and took home 12th overall. Short added his name to the record books, as his time placed him eighth on the program's all-time top-10 list in the event. Freshman Sam Llaneza ran career-best 1:58.92 in the 800 to capture 18th and place him 10th on the all-time list.
Graduate student Tristan Lucy-Speidel ran a new personal record in the men's 3000 as he finished second overall with a time of 8:31.03. He now ranks second on the all-time list, first in the ODAC and currently 19th in the nation.
On the women's side of action, junior LaMaya Lacy continued her dominance in the women's 60m hurdles as she ran a 9.13 to place 13th overall. She continues to hold the top spot in the conference. The women's distance medley relay team, comprised of junior Stephanie Burnett, freshman Kelsey Lagunas, senior Michela Cholak, and junior Angela Ramsden, ran a 13:00.07 to place sixth overall; their time placed the relay team second on the all-time list.
In the women's field events, the Hornets took home three top-10 finishes as sophomore Donzailya Berg jumped 5'1" to capture first place in the high jump. Sophomore Lauren Anderson matched her personal best as she vaulted 10'11.75" to take home first place in the women's pole vault. Senior Sammi Woods took home an eighth place finish in the shot put as she threw 42'11.5".
Lynchburg track & field will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 22 as the Hornets travel to Blacksburg to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational.
