Men's tennis sweeps Panthers to kick off spring season

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's tennis team opened 2020 on the right foot Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of Ferrum to start Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

Lynchburg (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) swept doubles play with relative ease and rolled to an early lead in singles play as well. Juan Borga took care of business at the top singles flight, claiming a 6-2, 6-1 victory, and Colton Mullins won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 to clinch the match.

Things got more interesting at the Nos. 3 and 4 spots, as Daniel Christian fought to a 6-2, 8-6 win at the former, while Cooper Brewen came from behind for a 1-6, 6-5, 1-0 (2) triumph.

Vincent Oliver won 6-0, 6-1 at the fifth flight, and Carter McCleary earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6 to ice the blowout.

It was the Hornets' first sweep in more than two years; Lynchburg topped Ferrum 9-0 in February of 2018.

Lynchburg will look to make it two straight wins when it travels to William Peace on Friday, Feb. 28 for a 1:30 p.m. non-conference match at William Peace.
