Winston-Salem, N.C. -- The new University of Lynchburg women's 60-meter hurdles record lasted only a week as junior LaMaya Lacy broke her own school record at the Camel City Invitational. Lacy's 9.03-second race highlighted the Hornets men's and women's track & field performances Friday and Saturday at JDL Fast Track.
It was the second time in as many weeks Lacy topped the program's record in the event; she broke the 20-year-old top mark last week at Roanoke College's invitational. Her time Saturday was the top Division III mark and placed 10th overall. It is the top time in the ODAC and the 15th best time in the division this season.
For the rest of the women's side, sophomore pole vaulter Lauren Anderson matched her season best vaulting 10'11.75", giving her a seventh-place finish. She remains tied with teammate Bailey Casto for the top vault in the ODAC.
Freshman Kelsey Lagunas ran a career-best 10:57.37 in the women's 3k and added her name to 10th on the program's all-time list.
On the men's side of action, senior Reid Sharkey placed 12th overall in the men's 3k with a career-best time of 8:34.18, giving him third best on the all-time top-10 list.
Senior Shawn Gmurek finished 24th in the men's 800m with a time of 1:57.89.
Graduate student Tristan Lucy-Speidel finished 13th overall in the men's 5k with a time of 15:16.77, placing him sixth on the all-time list.
Lynchburg track & field will be back in action on next weekend as the Hornets compete in the VMI Indoor Classic at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington.
