Salem, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's track & field team made use of six event victories to take a second-place team finish this weekend at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, hosted at Roanoke College's Cregger Center.
Lynchburg finished with 141 points in the team standings, well ahead of third-place Bridgewater (123) and just 12 behind champion Washington and Lee (153).
Senior Reid Sharkey highlighted the Hornets' efforts by winning both the 1-mile (4:26.05) and 3,000-meter (8:49.98) runs, and the Fairfax native won the male track athlete of the meet award for his efforts.
Sharkey also anchored the men's distance medley relay, teaming with Sam Llaneza, Conor Cahill, and William Fowler to run away with the conference title at 10:34.64.
Alex Shadkhoo (200m, 22.43), Shawn Gmurek (800m, 1:56.73), and Tristan Lucy-Speidel (5,000m, 15:22.20) also came away with event victories over the weekend.
Lucy-Speidel added a second-place finish in the 3,000m and a third-place result in the 1-mile, and Gmurek checked in as the runner-up in the 1-mile.
Julian Douglas (long jump), Llaneza (800m), Melbert Navarro (pole vault), and Jordan Short (400m) also contributed All-ODAC performances in the meet.
The conference's sports information professionals also voted Gmurek its male scholar-athlete of the year. The senior also won the honor this past fall in cross country.
Lynchburg's second-place finish in the meet was the Hornets' best since a runner-up result in 2015 and was the most points a Lynchburg team scored in the conference's indoor championships since they won the 2014 iteration.
