Men's tennis finishes Spring Tennis Fest with victories

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – University of Lynchburg's men's tennis team battled Friday to a pair of victories in its final day at Spring Tennis Fest.

The Hornets (6-2) won a 6-3 match over Gordon in the morning and finished their Spring Break trip with a 5-4 victory over Lake Forest in the afternoon.

Strong doubles play led the way for Lynchburg in Friday's opener, helping the Hornets to a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. Juan Borga won easily, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, and Daniel Christian also took a straight-sets victory, 7-6 (4), 6-3, at No. 3 to seal the Lynchburg win. Cooper Brewen earned the Hornets' final victory at the fifth singles flight.

In the late match, Lake Forest took one of the three doubles matches, but Lynchburg fought back to win three singles bouts, starting with Borga's 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 1.

No. 2 man Colton Mullins won 7-6, 6-2 at the second flight, and Christian cemented the Hornets' win at No. 3 with a 7-6, 6-4 triumph.

Lynchburg's men's tennis program will suspend its season due to the COVID-19 outbreak as the players return to Lynchburg and then to home. The status of the spring season will be reevaluated in April.
