Baseball falls twice to Methodist

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Fayetteville, N.C. -- University of Lynchburg's baseball team fell in both games of its mid-week doubleheader against Methodist University Tuesday by finals of 3-0 in Game 1 and then 12-4 in the nightcap.

In Game 1, sophomore Avery Neaves and junior Garrett Jackson both went 2-for-3 on the day with two singles each to lead the Hornets' offense. However, the Hornets (2-6) were unable to scratch any runs across the board. The Monarchs (3-4) scored three runs on seven hits and held Lynchburg to just six on the day.

Lynchburg's starter, senior Carrson Atkins, went 4 1⁄3 innings, gave up four hits and two unearned runs, and took the loss.

In Game 2, Lynchburg took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning. The Hornets loaded the bases with no one out and after freshman Ethan Marotske walked to bring home a run, Jackson Harding hit a sacrifice fly to drive in another. Kinston Carson then drove home Ryan Long for the Hornets' third run of the inning.

In the bottom of the third, the Monarchs responded with a run of their own and then added four more in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead. The Monarchs scored seven more runs over the final three home frames.

Harding led the Hornet offense in Game 2 as the junior had two hits and drove home a run. Neaves added a double and freshman Riley O'Donovan had a single and an RBI.

Lynchburg's starter, Wesley Arrington allowed only one run on four hits in four innings of work and earned a no-decision.

The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday, March 6 with a twinbill against Ferrum that will not count in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
