Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2021 season Sunday, dropping an 8-1 match to Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Roanoke.
The Hornets' lone point came at the No. 3 doubles flight, where sophomore Cooper Brewen and senior Matthew Manos battled to win, 8-7 in a tiebreaker.
The visiting Maroons took all six singles matches in straight sets as well. Brewen put up a good fight at No. 4, eventually falling, 6-3, 6-1, and Manos battled hard to a 7-5 loss in the first set at No. 6 before dropping the second, 6-0.
The loss ended a five-match win streak for the Hornets (3-1, 2-1 ODAC) dating back to last March before the COVID-19 shutdown and was Lynchburg's first loss at home since March 28, 2019.
