Box Score Lynchburg, Va.-- University of Lynchburg's women's soccer team shut out Shenandoah University, 5-0, at home Sunday afternoon as Alyssa Damato recorded her first career hat trick.
Lynchburg (5-1-0, 4-1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) controlled the game from the opening whistle as sophomore Lindsey Grady found the back of the Shenandoah net in the first minute off an assist from freshman Victoria Newman to give the Hornets a 1-0 advantage. Lynchburg took 12 more shots, six of which on frame, but none got past Shenandoah's goalkeeper, who made six saves in the opening half.
In the second half, Damato added to the Lynchburg lead in the 61st minute with her first goal of the contest off another assist from Newman. Later, in the 73rd minute, Damato assisted a goal by Kelsey Seery to run the score up to 3-0 in Lynchburg's favor.
Damato scored her second goal in the 75th minute off an assist from Savannah Harper and then completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal in the 76th minute, ultimately sealing the Lynchburg victory.
The Hornets totaled 23 shots on the day with 16 on frame. Damato accounted for six of them and had five on goal. Junior Amanda Wigboldy also had three shots on the afternoon.
Shenandoah's goalkeeper, Jordan Haack, recorded 10 saves on the day but was pinned with the loss.
Lynchburg women's soccer will return to the pitch on Sunday, March 28 at 2 p.m. for another ODAC match as the Hornets play host to the Generals of Washington and Lee University.
