Box Score Ashland, Va. -- In a game that was originally scheduled to be played a day prior, University of Lynchburg's baseball team fell to No. 15-ranked Randolph-Macon, 10-1, Thursday afternoon on the road.
The Hornets (10-8, 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) fell behind early to the Yellow Jackets as R-MC used two home runs, a double and a single in the second inning to bring around five runs and take the early 5-0 advantage. In the bottom half of the third, the Yellow Jackets scored four more times on two more hits to go ahead 9-0.
In the top half of the fourth, Lynchburg got on the board after consecutive doubles from sophomore Avery Neaves and senior Avery Combs, but that was all from the Hornets' offense as the Yellow Jackets (7-3, 5-0) added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to go up 10-1.
The Hornets' bullpen shut down the R-MC offense after the third inning as Angel Collazo, Brendan Houghtaling and Josh Gjormand combined to hold the Yellow Jackets to only one run on three hits and struck out eight. Houghtaling recorded three of the eight strikeouts in his 1 2⁄3 innings of work.
Lynchburg baseball will be back on the diamond on Saturday, March 27 as the Hornets play host to Eastern Mennonite University in an ODAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon.
