Ferrum, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's tennis team opened 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference play in strong fashion Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of Ferrum on the road.
The Hornets started off with strong doubles play as No. 1 duo Daniel Christian and Carter McCleary earned an 8-4 win, Colton Mullins and Vincent Oliver won 8-1 at No. 2, and Cooper Brewen and Matthew Manos cruised to a third-flight 8-0 victory.
Lynchburg kept that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Oliver's 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 and Manos' identical line at No. 6 highlighted the scoresheet, while Mullins took a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 1 and Brewen was victorious, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4.
The Hornets (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) will make their home debut Sunday at 1 p.m. against crosstown rival Randolph.
