Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball routed William Peace, 17-2, at home on Tuesday afternoon to win its third game in a row.
In the bottom half of the first, the Hornets (5-6) batted around and scored seven runs as senior Parker Shaffer led off the inning by reaching on an error and came back around for a three-run double in his second at-bat of the inning.
In the fifth, Lynchburg scored three times without recording a base hit as Holden Fiedler drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and then later, two Pacer errors brought home freshman Gavin Collins and Cameron Lane who reached base via a hit-by-pitch and a walk.
The Pacers (8-3) could not quiet the Lynchburg bats as the Hornets scored six more times in the seventh inning. Graduate student Kinston Carson had a two-run double down the right field line, and then junior Garrett Jackson brought home Carson with an RBI-single.
Lynchburg's offense was led by Jackson who went 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Shaffer who drove in three of the 17 Hornet runs.
Hornet pitching only allowed four hits on the afternoon and just two runs, neither of which were earned. Starter Wesley Arrington recorded his first win of the season going five innings with three hits and four strikeouts. Sophomore Colby Hutnan retired the side and struck two Pacers in the ninth in his first collegiate appearance.
Lynchburg baseball will be back on the diamond on Wednesday, March 10 with another non-conference afternoon matchup as the Hornets travel to Averett University to take on the Cougars. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
