Men's tennis ekes out win over Shenandoah

Lynchburg, Va. -- The bottom half of the University of Lynchburg men's tennis lineup came up huge Saturday in the Hornets' 5-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over Shenandoah at the Crosswhite Athletic Club.

Lynchburg started off on the right foot as Colton Mullins and Vincent Oliver earned an 8-2 win at the second doubles flight and Cooper Brewen and Matthew Manos won, also 8-2, at No. 3.

Lynchburg's fourth through sixth flights swept the visitors, helping the Hornets hang on to the narrow lead.

Oliver cruised at No. 5, winning 6-1, 6-2, and Brewen followed at No. 4 with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win. Manos, the Hornets' No. 6 played, nailed down the win with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph.

It was the second 5-4 Lynchburg win in as many matches as the Hornets improved to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in league play this season.

Lynchburg will double up tomorrow with home matches versus Guilford at noon and Virginia Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m.
