Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's tennis team dropped a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference matches Sunday, falling 9-0 to Guilford and 8-1 to Virginia Wesleyan at home.
The Hornets battled hard in the noon opener against the Quakers, highlighted by the No. 2 doubles team of Colton Mullins and Vincent Oliver forcing a tiebreak but eventually falling, 8-7 (3). Visiting Guilford took that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Later in the afternoon with Virginia Wesleyan in town, Lynchburg's Oliver and Mullins fought again to a close defeat, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.
The Marlins also controlled singles play, but No. 6 man Christian Kumar prevented the sweep with a gutsy 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9) victory. It marks the Lynchburg native's first varsity singles win.
Lynchburg (5-3, 4-3 ODAC) will take the week off from competition before returning to play at home Sunday, April 18 against Hampden-Sydney.
